What is Urticaria?

Urticaria, also known as hives, is a skin condition characterized by the appearance of itchy, raised, and red bumps on the skin. These bumps can vary in size and shape and often appear in clusters.

Symptoms of urticaria/hives may include:

1. Raised, red, and itchy bumps on the skin

2. Swelling of the affected area

3. Burning or stinging sensation on the skin

4. Rash-like appearance on the skin

5. Difficulty breathing or swallowing (in severe cases)

There are many potential causes of urticaria/hives, including allergic reactions to food, medication, or insect bites, as well as stress or infections. Treatment of urticaria/hives may involve identifying and avoiding triggers, taking antihistamines, and using topical or oral corticosteroids in more severe cases. Other medications such as leukotriene receptor antagonists or immunomodulators may also be used in some cases.

It's important to seek medical attention if you experience symptoms of urticaria/hives, especially if you also have difficulty breathing or swallowing, as these may be signs of a severe allergic reaction that requires emergency treatment. Your healthcare provider can help determine the cause of your urticaria/hives and recommend appropriate treatment options.
